He meets the children upon their very first adventure and makes regular appearances in the series from that point on. Jack is red-haired and green-eyed, and has freckles upon freckles, hence Philip's imaginative nickname for him: Freckles. Blyton seems to use very similar characters in both sets of books and in 'The Adventure' books the children seem more sophisticated but for me not as likeable. Featuring outstanding performances from John Rhys-Davies and Norman Bowler (and fairly terrible performances from half of the rest of the cast, it has to be said) this film is a roller-coaster of action - from explosions to birds flying in through windows, from boat chases to frogs hopping out of bowls.
